He was born to King Laius and Queen Jocasta. An oracle gave a dark prediction. It said his son would kill him. To stop this, Laius left the baby on a mountain.

A kind shepherd found the boy. He gave the baby to a new family. They raised him as their own. His name came from his swollen feet.

As a man, Oedipus heard the same prediction. He left home to stay safe. On his way, he fought a man. That man was his real father. Later, he reached the city of Thebes. A monster called the Sphinx lived there. She asked a hard riddle to all travelers. Oedipus solved it correctly. This made him the new king. He also married the queen, Jocasta.
