It is the last part of a famous story. The play shows the end of a man named Oedipus. He is blind and has suffered much. He travels to a village called Colonus with his daughters. They seek help from King Theseus of Athens.

Oedipus has a very hard past. He killed his father and married his mother. He did these things without knowing the truth. This is why he feels he is not fully guilty. The play also shows a fight between his two sons. They are fighting over the throne of Thebes. One son, Creon, tries to take Oedipus away by force.

Oedipus tells the people that his death will be a gift. He says his grave will bring a blessing to the land. In the end, a storm comes. Oedipus dies at a holy site. He leaves a sense of wonder behind. The play teaches us about fate. Fate is a power that no one can escape. It is something we must learn to live with.
