Many followers seek to build honorable relationships with landscapes, plants, and animals. They also connect with nature spirits or deities. While beliefs vary, most Druids honor the divine essence found in nature. Some use meditation or prayer to talk with these spirits. Others use special methods to seek wisdom and guidance. A core part of their life is environmental stewardship. This means they work to protect and care for the earth.

This movement began in Britain during the 18th century. It grew out of the Romantic movement. People at that time loved ideas of natural harmony and ancient wisdom. Early followers wanted to act like the Iron Age priests known as Druids. However, modern Druidry is not a direct line to those ancient people. Instead, it is a modern reconstruction inspired by history and folklore. Some early groups were even modeled after fraternal organizations like Freemasonry. One of the oldest groups, the Ancient Order of Druids, was founded in 1781.

Beliefs within the community are very diverse. There is no single set of rules or official doctrine. Many Druids identify as animists or polytheists. This means they may believe spirits live in all things or that many gods exist. Some followers even combine Druidry with other faiths like Christianity or Buddhism. Some people call themselves "Christodruids" or "Zen Druids." Because there is no single way to believe, the movement is quite flexible. Some groups focus on culture, while others focus on religion.

They might spend time alone in nature to feel a sense of belonging. They also do practical things to help the environment. This includes growing organic food or restoring natural habitats. Some Druids also participate in activism to stop pollution. They often prefer a natural way of living over a world focused on technology. This work helps them feel connected to the entire cosmos.

By the year 2020, Druidry had spread across the globe. It reached 34 nations and six different continents.

Interestingly, about 92% of all Druids live outside the British Isles. Most Druids prefer to keep their spiritual practices private. In fact, 74% of them do not try to convert others to their way of life. Even though they are spread out, they share a love for the earth. They continue to find new ways to interpret ancient ideas for the modern world.
