A drop tower is a thrilling amusement park ride.

It uses a tall tower and one or more gondolas. A gondola is the seat that holds the riders. The ride lifts the seats to the very top. Then, it lets them fall fast toward the ground. This makes you feel weightless for a short time.

Safety is a big part of the ride. Many towers use magnetic braking systems to stop. Other rides use air pressure and pistons. S&S Sansei makes rides that use steel cables too. These can move seats up or down very fast.

Some new rides even rotate the seats. This turns riders to face the ground before the drop. One ride is called Falcon's Fury. It turns you down and then brings you back up.
