Dock jumping is a fun sport for dogs.

Dogs jump from a dock into a pool or lake. Some dogs jump to see how far they can go. Other dogs jump to see how high they can go.

A dock is a long board. It is usually 36 to 40 feet long. The dock is often covered in soft mats. This helps dogs stay safe and grip the surface. A person holds a toy to help the dog jump. The jump only counts once the toy leaves the person's hand.

Judges measure the distance of a jump. They use video to see exactly where the dog hits the water. They often measure from the base of the dog's tail.

Most teams get two jumps. Their best score is what counts.

There are many ways to play. In Extreme Vertical, dogs try to hit a bumper hanging high in the air. In Speed Retrieve, dogs race to jump and swim a set distance. There are even special groups for different dogs. Small dogs are called lap dogs. Older dogs can join the veteran or Legend Dog groups. This lets dogs of all sizes and ages join the fun.
