Destiny's Child was a highly influential American girl group.

They were famous for their complex vocal harmonies and energetic stage performances. The group is credited with helping shape the sound of contemporary R&B. They also contributed to the rise of rap-singing in popular music. Many fans value the group for their themes of female empowerment. They remain one of the best-selling girl groups in history.

The group's musical journey began in Houston, Texas, in 1990. They originally performed under the name Girl's Tyme. The group included Beyoncé, LaTavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett, and Kelly Rowland.

Early members also included Támar Davis and the Taylor sisters, Nikki and Nina. They practiced dance routines in backyards and at a local hair salon. During summer months, they attended a vocal and dance "boot camp." This intensive training helped them prepare to open for established R&B acts.

Success was not immediate for the group. They competed on the national talent show Star Search but lost. Beyoncé later said they chose the wrong song type by rapping instead of singing. The group went through many name changes, including Somethin' Fresh and Cliché. In 1996, they chose the name Destiny's Child. This name was based on a passage from the Book of Isaiah. After several attempts, they signed a major record deal with Columbia Records in 1997.

Destiny's Child experienced significant changes in their lineup during their peak years. The original quartet released the hit single "No, No, No" in 1997. However, internal conflicts arose regarding management and profit sharing. Members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett attempted to leave the group. They were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin.

Franklin left after only a few months, leaving the final trio. This trio consisted of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.

The group released several massive albums that defined the era. Their second album, The Writing's on the Wall, arrived in 1999. It featured the number-one hits "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name." This album sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Their third album, Survivor, was released in 2001. It included the song "Independent Women Part I," which held the number-one spot for eleven weeks.

Even after they officially disbanded in 2006, the members' influence continued. Each member pursued successful solo careers after a planned hiatus.
