The Wonder Girls were a highly influential South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment. They were a major force in the K-pop industry, known for their distinct musical style. Many fans and critics called them "South Korea's Retro Queens." This nickname came from their use of musical elements from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Their music combined modern production with these classic, nostalgic sounds.

To understand how the group functioned, one must look at their evolving lineup. They debuted in February 2007 with five members: Yeeun, Sunye, Sunmi, Hyuna, and Sohee. Shortly after their debut, the group underwent its first major change. Hyuna left the group in July 2007 due to health issues including fainting spells. Yubin was added to the group as a replacement before the release of their first studio album, *The Wonder Years*. This process required reworking their music, such as adding a rap bridge for Yubin in the song "Tell Me."

As the group progressed, different stages of membership defined their career. In early 2010, Sunmi departed to pursue an academic career. She was replaced by Hyerim, and the group released the single "2 Different Tears" later that year. The group also released the album *Wonder World* in 2011. By 2015, the lineup changed again when Sunye and Sohee decided to leave. The remaining four members adapted a new band-oriented concept for their final studio album, *Reboot*.

Their significance extends to the global music stage, particularly in the United States. In 2009, the Wonder Girls began entering the American market. They performed English versions of their songs and joined the Jonas Brothers' World Tour. This tour eventually included 45 concert dates across North America. During this time, their song "Nobody" reached number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement made them the first South Korean act to ever enter that specific chart.
