Based in Sydney, she has become one of the most successful musical artists in Australian history. Her career spans multiple decades and includes massive success in both music and television. She has achieved significant global reach, selling over eight million albums worldwide. Her influence is reflected in her numerous accolades, including 12 ARIA Music Awards and three World Music Awards.

Goodrem's path to stardom began with early training in several performing arts. At age seven, she began playing the piano and started lessons in singing, dancing, and acting. She appeared in various advertisements for companies like Optus and Nesquik. By age thirteen, she had financed a five-song demo CD through her work in television. This demo was eventually passed to talent manager Glenn Wheatley, who signed her to an artist development deal with Empire Records. This early period laid the groundwork for her professional music career.

Her breakthrough occurred in the early 2000s through a combination of television and music. In 2002, she played the character Nina Tucker on the soap opera Neighbours. This role helped relaunch her music career significantly. Her piano-based ballad, "Born to Try," premiered on the show and reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. This success led to the release of her debut studio album, Innocent Eyes, in March 2003. The album was a historic success, remaining at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart for 29 non-consecutive weeks.

During the height of her initial success, Goodrem faced a serious health challenge. In July 2003, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a form of cancer. This diagnosis required her to take a break from her career to undergo medical treatment. Despite this, her music continued to reach audiences. Her second studio album, Mistaken Identity, was released in 2004 while she was still undergoing treatment. Many songs on this album, such as "Extraordinary Day," were inspired by her personal battle with illness.

Throughout her career, Goodrem has released several highly successful studio albums. Following Innocent Eyes, she released Mistaken Identity, which debuted at number one and was certified five times platinum in Australia. Her third number-one album, Delta, was released in 2007 and featured the single "In This Life." Her fifth album, Wings of the Wild, also reached number one in 2016. Most recently, her fifth number-one studio album, Bridge over Troubled Dreams, was released in May 2021. These releases demonstrate her consistent ability to connect with listeners over many years.

Beyond her recording career, Goodrem has become a major figure in Australian television. From 2012 to 2020, she served as a coach for eight seasons on The Voice Australia. During a hiatus in 2014, she also coached on The Voice Kids. Since 2020, she has hosted the annual Nine Network special, Christmas with Delta. Her versatility allows her to move between the recording studio and the television screen with ease.

Looking toward the future, she is set to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. She will perform the song "Eclipse," which she co-wrote with Jonas Myrin, Ferras Alqaisi, and Michael Fatkin.
