He was born in a city called Gdańsk. He was a physicist, which is a person who studies how the world works. He also made tools like barometers to measure air pressure.

Fahrenheit made a big change to how we measure heat. Before him, many tools used alcohol. He made the first successful mercury-in-glass thermometers. These used mercury, a silver liquid, inside glass tubes. These tools were very accurate. This meant different people could trust their readings.

Because his tools worked so well, people used his scale. We call this the Fahrenheit scale. He made this scale using three fixed points. First, he used a mix of ice, water, and salt. Second, he used water with ice forming on top. Third, he used the heat from a human mouth.

Many English-speaking countries used his scale for a long time. Today, the United States still uses it for weather reports.
