Joseph built a tool called a spectroscope. This tool lets us see the colors in light. While using it, he found 574 dark lines in sunlight. We call these Fraunhofer lines. These lines are like fingerprints for light. They help astronomers learn what stars are made of. He even saw different lines in the star Sirius. This showed that stars have different parts inside them.

Joseph also made better ways to make glass. He built a new kind of furnace. He also made machines to polish glass surfaces. This made the glass very smooth and clear. His glass was better than glass from other places. Because of his work, Bavaria became a center for making tools. Joseph died at age 39. He died from breathing in metal vapors at work.
