Kirchhoff studied many things about our world. He looked at light and power. He also studied heat and math.

Kirchhoff worked with a man named Robert Bunsen. Together, they studied light using a tool called a spectroscope. This tool helps us see the colors in light. They used it to study the Sun. Kirchhoff showed that the Sun contains sodium. Sodium is a type of element. In 1861, they also found two new elements. These are called caesium and rubidium.

Kirchhoff also made rules for electrical circuits. A circuit is a path for power to flow. His first law talks about how power moves through a node. A node is a place where paths meet. His second law helps us understand power in a closed loop.

He also studied how heat moves. He used the term black body to describe certain objects.
