He provides the voice for Homer Simpson on the long-running show *The Simpsons*. He also voices many other characters on the show. These include Krusty the Clown, Barney Gumble, and Groundskeeper Willie. He even voices Mayor Quimby and Sideshow Mel. His work brings many different people to life through sound alone.

Making these voices is a special skill that takes a lot of practice. To perform Homer, Castellaneta lowers his chin to his chest. He tries to visualize the scene in his mind to help his acting. For the character Barney Gumble, he once recorded a special belch to use as a standard. He also creates voices using different accents. For example, he used a grumpy Scotsman accent for Groundskeeper Willie. He even improvised the accent for Mayor Quimby to make it a parody.

Castellaneta began learning how to use his voice at a young age. He loved to listen to comedy records and make impressions of the artists. His mother put him in an acting class when he was 16 years old. He went to Northern Illinois University to study art education. While he was a student teacher, he used his funny voices to entertain his students. He also worked on a radio show called *The Ron Petke and His Dead Uncle Show*. This radio work helped him learn how to switch between many different voices.

His career has led to many big honors and awards. He has won four Primetime Emmy Awards for his voice work. He also won an Annie Award for his work on *The Simpsons*. In 2000, the whole Simpson family received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Castellaneta does not just act; he also helps write stories. He and his wife, Deb Lacusta, have written several episodes for *The Simpsons*. One of their episodes is called "Days of Wine and D'oh'ses." They were even nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award for their writing. This shows how much he understands the characters he plays. He is a very talented man who uses his voice to make people laugh all over the world.
