She is famous for using her voice to bring cartoon characters to life. Most people know her as the voice of Bart Simpson on the long-running show The Simpsons. She also voices many other characters on that show, such as Maggie Simpson, Ralph Wiggum, Todd Flanders, and Nelson Muntz. Beyond the Simpson family, she voiced Chuckie Finster in the series Rugrats. Her work has earned her big honors, including a Primetime Emmy Award and an Annie Award. She finds her job to be the best acting work in the world.

Nancy learned her craft through many steps of practice. She grew up in Ohio and found she loved performing early on. In fourth grade, she won a speech contest at her school. Later, she won first place in a national speech tournament twice. She even spoke about the art of animation in a speech. In 1976, she started doing voice-overs for radio commercials. This led her to meet a great mentor named Daws Butler.

He helped her by sending scripts and giving her notes on her recordings.

Her path to fame began with a surprising choice in 1987. Nancy went to an audition for a new show on The Tracey Ullman Show. She originally wanted to play Lisa Simpson. However, she felt the character of Bart was much more interesting. Bart was described as clever and a bit of a troublemaker. The creator, Matt Groening, liked her so much he gave her the role on the spot. In 1989, these short clips became the famous half-hour show called The Simpsons.

There are many interesting facts about her career and her characters. Bart Simpson became so famous that he was part of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000.

Nancy even helped create Bart's famous line, "Eat My Shorts." She made this up during a reading by remembering a funny chant from her high school marching band. Even though Bart is a huge star, Nancy often stays unknown in public. She says her normal voice sounds nothing like the boy she plays. This helps her keep her private life separate from her famous work.

Nancy has used her skills to create many different things. She is not just an actress, but also a writer and a producer. In 2000, she published her own book called My Life as a 10-Year-Old Boy. She later turned that book into a one-woman play. She also traveled to Italy to learn more about film. This journey inspired her to write and produce a film called In Search of Fellini in 2017. From radio ads to huge cartoon stars, Nancy has spent her life exploring the magic of sound.
