Since he began his career in the 1980s, he has appeared in more than 600 different titles. Many people recognize him as the official voice of Winnie the Pooh, a role he has held since 1984. He also provides the voice for the bouncy Tigger and the wild Tasmanian Devil. His work is very important to companies like Disney and Warner Bros. He uses his skills to make characters feel real and full of personality. This allows audiences to connect with stories through sound.

Acting with your voice is a special way to perform. Cummings often uses impressions to match a character's unique way of speaking. For example, he was so good at mimicking an older actor that he filled in as Kaa the snake. He has also stepped in to help other actors during difficult times. When the actor who played Scar in The Lion King had vocal problems, Cummings finished the song. He even acted as a singing double for many movie stars. This means he sings the parts for the characters on screen. It is a way to make sure the magic of the movie stays perfect.

Jim's journey to voice acting started in many different places. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on November 3, 1952. After high school, he moved to New Orleans to do many interesting jobs. He designed and painted large Mardi Gras floats for parades. He also worked on a river boat and played drums in a rock band called Fusion. Later, he moved to Anaheim, California, where he managed a video store. In late 1984, he finally started his professional career in voice acting.

Throughout his long career, Jim has played many famous roles. He voiced the villain Fat Cat in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. He also played the pirate Hondo Ohnaka in the Star Wars franchise. Some of his roles are even "antagonistic," which means they are the bad guys. A director once chose him for the role of Steele in Balto because he wanted a sense of "inherent evil." He has also voiced characters in video games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Fallout. His work spans movies, television shows, and even commercials for Smokey Bear.

Today, Jim continues to share his love for storytelling in new ways. In 2018, he returned to play Pooh and Tigger in the live-action film Christopher Robin. He even started a podcast in 2023 called Toon'd In! On this show, he talks about his many characters and interviews other artists. He has won several awards, such as a Daytime Emmy for his work on My Friends Tigger & Pooh. His career shows how much skill it takes to turn a voice into a legend. He remains a very active part of the world of animation.
