Most people see this art in the form of tasty meals. People who work in this field are called cooks or chefs. Some people also use the names culinary artist or culinarian.

Expert chefs aim to make food that looks beautiful and tastes great. They must understand food science, nutrition, and diet to do this well. Many chefs work in restaurants, hotels, or even large hospitals.

To make great food, chefs use many different tools. Professionals often call these tools "Ustensiles De Cuisine."

These tools can be made of wood, glass, or metal. Some are even made of newer materials like plastic or silicone. Chefs use many different techniques to get the right results. These methods require specific tools, foods, and heat sources. A professional kitchen might use an expensive grill that a home cook does not have.

Cooking has a very long history that began 2 million years ago.

One theory says early humans tossed meat into flames to cook it. Another idea is that humans found meat cooked by forest fires. They may have liked it because it was easier to chew and digest. Later, people used tools made of earthenware and stoneware. As farming and animal raising grew, cooking techniques improved even more.

In the past, professional chefs mostly worked for kings, priests, or rich leaders. This created different types of food called cuisines.

In Europe, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin helped study these arts. He famously said, "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are." In the United States, the first cooking school opened in 1879. This was the Boston Cooking School. It helped make recipes and cooking methods the same for everyone.

Today, culinary arts is a deep field of study for students.

Students learn about butchery, food safety, and human nutrition. They also study chemistry, thermodynamics, and how to plan a menu. Some even learn how to turn wheat into flour or cane into sugar. Many students study at universities or special culinary schools. These programs can last for three years. This training helps them learn about many different cultures from around the world.
