People in this field are often called chefs or cooks. Chefs make meals that look beautiful and taste delicious. They may work in restaurants, hotels, or hospitals.

Cooking began a very long time ago. Some say humans used fire to cook meat. Others think they found cooked meat after forest fires. As time went on, cooking changed. People began to use tools made of clay and stone. In the past, chefs cooked for kings and queens. Later, they began to work in inns and hotels. Today, students can go to school to learn these skills. They study many things like food safety and nutrition. They also learn about butchery, which is preparing meat. Some students study how to make flour from wheat. Others learn how to turn cane plants into sugar. This study can last for three years. It helps them learn to plan a menu and present food well.
