Cooking has a long history. In the Ming dynasty in China, cooks served wealthy people. They made fancy treats like sugar animals. Some cooks even worked for the royal court. In the 15th century, over 9,000 cooks worked there. They fed up to 15,000 people every day.

In Mexico, cooks show great passion for their food. They feel their dishes show their soul and heritage. They might buy fresh items at street markets. In the Middle East, cooks often use lamb or chicken. They may use eggplant to make many different dishes.

Learning to cook takes practice. Some people go to cooking schools. Others learn through an apprenticeship. This is a way to learn by doing the job. It can be a busy and loud job. But it is a skill that people respect.
