They were made by a group called the Clovis culture. These people lived a long time ago. All known points date to about 13,400 years ago.

The points are named after Clovis, New Mexico. This is where they were first found in 1929.

These tools have a very unique look. They have long grooves called flutes. These flutes are cut into the base of the stone. The points are often made of stone like chert or flint.

Most points were used for hunting. Some people think they were used on spears. Others think they were used as darts. They might have also been used to cut meat.

Clovis points are found across North America. Many were found east of the Mississippi River. Around 10,000 years ago, a new tool appeared. This was the Folsom point.

Folsom points are shorter than Clovis points. After Folsom points appeared, Clovis points went away.
