These people were hunters. They moved from place to place to find food. They hunted very big animals called megafauna. One big animal they hunted was the mammoth.

The Clovis people made very special stone tools. Their most famous tool was the Clovis point. These were sharp points used on spears. They had a special shape. A thin piece of stone was removed from the base. This is called a flute. These points were not just for hunting. People also used them as knives to cut things.

They made other tools too. They used bone and ivory to make rods. They also made scrapers to clean animal hides. Sometimes, they stored their tools in groups. We call these groups caches.

Scientists found these tools near Clovis, New Mexico. In 1929, they found tools near mammoth bones. This helped them learn how these people lived.
