A climbing wall is a tall wall made by people.

Most walls are found inside a gym. These walls use special grips for your hands and feet. These grips are called holds.

Many walls use thick wood with holes drilled in them. Small metal parts called T-nuts sit inside the holes. This lets people screw the holds onto the wall.

Climbers use different colors to find a path. A person called a route setter places the holds. They make the path fun and tricky. You might only use holds of one color to finish a route. Some holds are large and easy to grab, called jugs. Others are very small, called crimps.

To stay safe, climbers use gear. They use harnesses and ropes. Many climbers use chalk to keep their hands dry. This helps them grip the holds better. Some new walls even rotate like a treadmill! This lets you climb at your own speed. Indoor climbing is a very popular sport today.
