Chilseok is a special festival in Korea. It falls on the seventh day of the seventh month.

A famous story explains this day. Jiknyeo was a weaver in heaven. She fell in love with Gyeonu. He was a herder of cows and sheep. A king made them live apart. They can only meet once a year. On this night, crows and magpies help them. The birds form a bridge across the Milky Way.

People have many customs for Chilseok. They take baths to stay healthy. They also eat special foods. People eat wheat noodles and wheat cakes. They also eat miljeonbyeong, which are wheat pancakes. Another food is sirutteok. This is a steamed rice cake with red beans.

Chilseok is the last time to eat wheat. Cold winds come after this day. These winds change the scent of the wheat. Some people say the rain on this night is tears. The rain is from the two lovers. They are sad to be apart again.
