The Qixi Festival is a special time for love. It is often called Chinese Valentine's Day. People celebrate it on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. This festival comes from a very old story. It tells of a weaver girl named Zhinü and a cowherd named Niulang. They fell in love and got married. But the Emperor of Heaven was angry. He made them live apart. A wide river called the Milky Way stays between them.

Magpies help the two lovers. The birds build a bridge in the sky. This bridge lets the pair meet once a year. People look at the stars to find them. They look for Vega and Altair in the night sky. Some say rain on this day comes from their tears.

Many traditions happen during the festival. Girls pray for wisdom and skill. They might try to thread a needle in low light. This shows they are good at handiwork. Families also eat sweet food called Qiao Guo. These are fried treats made with flour, oil, and honey. People eat them to wish for a happy life.
