Most of the time, adults write these songs and perform them. This music can be very fun to listen to. It also has a very important job of teaching. Many songs help kids learn about their own culture. They can also teach facts, new skills, or how to behave well. Some songs are folk songs that people have shared for a long time.

There are many ways that children's music works. Many songs start as simple rhymes or nursery rhymes. Some music is made just for school to help students learn. In the past, schools in England made singing a required part of class. This led to many school plays called operettas. These plays were often funny and had good lessons. Some music is even made to be read along with. These albums come with booklets for children to follow.

History shows us how much this music has grown. The very first words ever recorded in 1860 were from a French song. It was a folk song called "Au Clair de la Lune." By 1888, people could buy records of Mother Goose rhymes. In the early 1900s, songs like "School Days" were made in New York. A very famous song called "Teddy Bears' Picnic" also came from this time. In the 1930s, Disney began making famous music for animated movies.

Many famous names have helped make children's music special. The movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" from 1937 had great songs. Songs like "Heigh-Ho" became very popular. Later, the show "Sesame Street" started in 1969. It used music by composers like Joe Raposo and Jeff Moss. This show has even won 11 Grammy Awards. In the 1970s, shows like "Schoolhouse Rock!" taught math and history through song.

Many artists like Raffi and Fred Penner have made music for families. Now, many children use tablets or smart TVs to listen. Some songs on YouTube have more than 1 billion views!
