It is spread to people by mosquito bites. Two types of mosquitoes carry it. These are Aedes aegypti, the Egyptian mosquito, and Aedes albopictus, the Tiger mosquito.

These mosquitoes often bite during the day. They like warm, tropical places.

Most people feel sick a few days after a bite. You might get a high fever. Many people feel very bad joint pain. This pain can hit both sides of the body at once. Some people also get a red rash on their skin. Most people feel better in about a week. However, the joint pain can last for months or even years.

Doctors can find the virus by testing your blood.

There is no special medicine to cure it. You can stay safe by avoiding bites. Use mosquito nets or insect repellent. It is also good to remove standing water where mosquitoes grow. This helps stop them from living near you.
