This virus affects both people and animals. Cows, sheep, goats, and camels can get sick. In animals, mosquitoes spread the virus most often. People can also get it. You might get sick from a mosquito bite. You can also get it by touching sick animal blood. Some people get it by breathing in air near sick animals. Drinking raw milk can also spread it.

Symptoms can be mild or very bad. Mild signs include fever, headaches, and muscle pains. These often last one week. Some people may also have trouble with their eyes or brain. In animals, the virus can cause many babies to be born too early.

Outbreaks often happen after heavy rain. Flooding creates more water. This helps more mosquitoes hatch. Most outbreaks happen in Africa and Arabia.

We can help stay safe. People can use bed nets or bug spray. It is also good to vaccinate animals. This must be done before an outbreak starts. Doctors can test blood to find the virus. There is no special medicine to cure it yet.
