It is a type of RNA virus. This means it has a special way of storing its code. This virus lives in fruit bats. It can also spread to pigs.

When people get sick, they might have a fever or a headache. They may also cough or have a sore throat. In bad cases, the virus causes encephalitis. This is a swelling of the brain. It can make people feel dizzy or sleepy. Some people may even have seizures. This can lead to a coma in one or two days.

People can catch the virus from animals. They can also catch it from other people. This happens through close contact with body fluids. In some places, people get sick from drinking raw date palm sap. This can happen if bats touch the sap.

There is no vaccine to stop this virus yet. Doctors use supportive care to help patients. This means they give rest and fluids. Scientists are testing new ways to help. They are even testing a new vaccine in trials. Stay safe by avoiding contact with sick animals.
