It can use film or a digital sensor. A sensor is an electronic part that records light.

How does a camera work? It starts with light. Light enters an enclosed box through a lens. The lens is made of glass parts. These parts focus the light to make a clear image.

Inside the camera, two parts control the light. The first is the aperture. This is an opening that can get wider or narrower. It helps decide how much light strikes the sensor. The second part is the shutter. The shutter is like a small door. It opens and closes to set the exposure time. This is how long the light hits the sensor.
