Digital photography uses light to make pictures.

Old cameras used film. They needed wet chemicals to show the image. Digital cameras do not use chemicals. Instead, they use an image sensor. This sensor is a group of tiny parts. Each part is a pixel.

A pixel measures the light hitting it. It turns that light into a digital file. This file is stored on a memory card.

In 1957, Russell Kirsch made the first digital image. It was a picture of his son. Later, scientists made a new sensor called a CCD. This sensor helps cameras catch light very well.

NASA even used digital tools to see Mars.

Today, many people use cameras on cell phones. This makes it easy to share photos. Some cameras are also mirrorless. These are small but take very good pictures. You can see the photo right away on a screen. This makes digital photography very fast and fun for everyone.
