Even though people first explored them in 1736, they are still not well known. This is because the Arctic is a very remote place. The mountains form a long, looping curve. They run from the southwest toward the northeast. They sit north and west of Lake Taymyr.

The weather in this place is very harsh. It has a continental climate. This means the seasons can be quite extreme. In the winter, the mountains see many blizzards. These are heavy snow storms.

There are no people living in the mountains. You will not find any towns or houses there. There are also no roads to help you travel. This makes it very difficult to reach the area. The land around the mountains is very different. To the north and south, the land is tundra. This land has many small lakes and wetlands. You might see bogs or marshes there.

Many different types of rock make up these mountains. They are a Hercynian formation. This shape was changed later by the Alpine orogeny.

Most of the range is made of siltstones. It also has intrusive rocks with a neutral composition. You can also find huge areas of exposed limestone. The mountains have many deep canyons and ravines. In the eastern zones, you can find small glaciers. These are large sheets of ice. The average height is about 600 meters. The highest peak reaches 1,134 meters.

Water plays a big role in this landscape. Two rivers start in the Byrranga Range. Their names are the Khutudabiga and the Chetyrekh.

The lower Taymyr River also flows through this area. It cuts across the mountains as it flows north. The name of the range comes from the Nganasan word. The word is бъранга, which means 'large rocky mountain.' This name tells you exactly what the land looks like. It is a place of stone and high places.

Learning about the Byrranga Mountains helps us understand the Arctic. It shows us how nature can stay wild and untouched. The mountains are part of the Krasnoyarsk Krai division.
