She is most well known for her Op Art. This type of art plays with how we see things. Her patterns can make people feel many sensations. Some viewers have even felt dizzy or like they were sky diving. These paintings use shapes to create a sense of movement. They make the eye feel like it is seeing something shifting. This style makes art feel alive and active for everyone.

Riley creates her art through very careful planning. She starts by making preparatory drawings and using collage.

She does not paint every canvas herself. Instead, she works with assistants to finish the work. These assistants paint the final canvases with great precision. They must follow her instructions exactly to get the right look. This way, her complex designs are made perfectly every time.

Her journey as an artist began a long time ago. She was born in London on April 24, 1931.

Her father was a printer who owned his own business. Riley studied art at Goldsmiths' College and the Royal College of Art. In her early years, she worked as an illustrator in advertising. She also spent time working as an art teacher for children. These different jobs helped shape her unique way of seeing.

Many important people and places influenced her famous style. She studied the work of Georges Seurat, a French artist.

Seurat used pointillism, which is a way of painting with tiny dots. Riley even made a copy of his painting, The Bridge at Courbevoie. In 1960, she painted a study called Pink Landscape in Italy. Later, a trip to Egypt inspired her "Egyptian palette." This trip helped her use new, bright colors in her work.

Riley's art can be found in many different places today. She has painted large murals on walls in many cities. One massive mural covers six walls at the Chinati Foundation in Texas.
