The city is part of the Bokaro district and is the fourth largest city in its state. It is a very important place for industry and learning. Many people call it "Mini India" because people from all over the country live there together.

This city is special because it was one of the first planned cities in India.

In the late 1960s, leaders began building it to be organized with specific areas for living and working. Each sector in the city has its own schools, playgrounds, and health centres. There are also many wide avenues for people to move around. The city is designed with residential areas for homes and commercial areas for business. This careful planning helps the city run smoothly even as it grows. It is a place where many different cultures, like Bengali and Bihari, live side by side.

Bokaro's history changed a lot after India gained its independence. Before the city was built, a place called Marafari was just a small village. The area was once part of the Manbhum region, which was ruled by Sultanates and Mughals. In the 1960s, the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, helped start the Bokaro Steel Plant.

This plant was built with help from the Soviet Union. Since then, the city has grown from a small settlement into a major industrial hub. It has become a center for politics and a place where many important leaders live.

The ground beneath Bokaro is full of valuable things found in nature.

The region is very rich in minerals, especially coal. There are large coalfields nearby, such as Jharia, Kulti, and West Bokaro. There is also a huge amount of natural gas under the ground. The city uses these resources to power its many big companies. For example, the Damodar Valley Corporation built a thermal power station here. Even the local cement plants use materials from the steel plant to make their products.

Life in Bokaro is connected to many other parts of India through travel.
