He is known for his great skill with horses. Many people follow his career because he wins big races. He has won the Kentucky Derby six times. This ties a long-standing record for trainers. He also has eight wins in the Preakness Stakes. Baffert has even won the Triple Crown twice. His horses American Pharoah and Justify both won this huge prize. These wins show how much talent he has.

Baffert learned about horses when he was a young boy. He grew up on a ranch in Nogales, Arizona. His family raised cattle and chickens on that ranch. When he was ten, his father bought Quarter Horses. Baffert practiced racing them on a dirt track. As a teenager, he worked as a jockey. He earned 100 dollars a day in local races. Later, he went to the University of Arizona. He earned a degree in the Race Track Industry Program.

His professional career has many big moments. He won his first race at age 17 in 1970. His first major winner was a horse named Flipper Star. In 1992, he won his first Breeders' Cup race with Thirty Slews. He became famous for training horses like Silver Charm and Real Quiet. These horses were not very expensive to buy. One cost 16,500 dollars and the other cost 17,000 dollars. Other trainers say he has an extraordinary eye for a good horse.

Baffert has earned many high honors in his life. He won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer four times. He was also put into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. This is a very special place for racing experts. He has won 21 Breeders' Cup races in total. This is more wins than any other trainer in history. He also won the Del Mar Futurity many times. He won that specific race seven times in a row from 1996 to 2002.

Even with his success, Baffert has faced many hard times. Some of his horses have failed drug tests. This means they had medicine in them that was not allowed. One horse, Medina Spirit, was disqualified after winning the Kentucky Derby. This led to Baffert being banned from some racing tracks. He has also faced questions about horse deaths in his stables. Some people think his personality makes him a target for critics. Other people believe he is simply a very strong and confident leader.
