Vincent Edward "Bo" Jackson is a legendary American athlete. He holds a unique place in sports history. Jackson is the only professional athlete to be named an All-Star in two major American sports. This means he reached the highest level of talent in both baseball and football. Because of these achievements, many people call him one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Jackson's athletic ability was visible in many different ways. In high school, he was a standout in track and field. He was a two-time state champion in the decathlon. A decathlon is a competition involving ten different track and field events. He also set state high school records for the indoor high jump and the triple jump. During his senior year at McAdory High School, he rushed for 1,175 yards in football. He also hit 20 home runs in only 25 games in baseball. This was a national high school record.

His college career at Auburn University showed his incredible versatility. Jackson played both college football as a running back and college baseball as an outfielder. In 1982, the New York Yankees offered him a $250,000 contract to play baseball. However, he chose to attend Auburn on a football scholarship. He did this to fulfill a promise to his mother. He wanted to be the first in his family to attend a major college. At Auburn, he became a star for the Tigers. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1985, which is the most prestigious award in college football.

One of Jackson's most famous moments occurred during the 1982 Iron Bowl. This is a heated football game between Auburn and their rival, Alabama. In the fourth quarter, Auburn was trailing 22–17. Jackson led a long drive down the field. During a huddle, he convinced his coach to let him run "over the top" of the defensive line. He used his skills as a high jumper to leap over the players. He scored a one-yard touchdown run. This play helped Auburn win the game 23–22.

Jackson's professional career involved several different teams and leagues. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Raiders. He also played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, and California Angels. In 1986, he chose to play baseball for the Royals instead of football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had been drafted first overall by the Buccaneers in the NFL draft. However, a dispute regarding his college eligibility prevented him from playing for them. In the MLB, he became the first Royals player to achieve a "25–25 season." This means he hit 25 home runs and stole 25 bases in one year.

Despite his success, Jackson faced significant physical challenges. A hip injury in 1991 brought his football career to an end. This injury also caused him to miss the entire 1992 MLB season. He eventually returned to baseball and won the Sporting News American League Comeback Player of the Year Award in 1993. He retired from professional baseball after the 1994 season.

Jackson's influence extended far beyond the playing field. In 1989 and 1990, he starred in a famous Nike advertising campaign called "Bo Knows." These advertisements helped make his name known to people who did not even follow sports. He also explored acting. He appeared in television shows like "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and films like "The Chamber." Jackson also focused on his education. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Child Development at Auburn. He has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated 13 times.
