Three systems work together to keep you steady. Your eyes help you see. Your vestibular system, which is in your ears, helps you feel movement. Your proprioception also helps. This is your body's sense of where it is in space. If one part stops working well, you may wobble.

One common cause is BPPV. This is a type of spinning feeling. It happens when tiny calcium crystals move the wrong way. These crystals are called otoconia. They usually stay in parts of the ear called the utricle and saccule. If they move into the semicircular canals, they trick your brain. This makes you feel like you are spinning when you move your head.

Other things can cause dizziness. Low blood pressure can make you feel faint. Brain injuries or tumors can also cause problems. Doctors use many tests to find the cause. Some people use balance training to get better. Others may practice Tai Chi to help prevent falls.
