Have you ever felt like the room is spinning? This feeling is called vertigo. It is the most common type of dizziness. People with vertigo feel like they or the objects around them are moving. It can feel like spinning or swaying. This can make people feel sick or even vomit. It can also make walking very hard.

Vertigo often comes from a problem in the vestibular system. This is the part of your body that helps you keep your balance. There are two main types. One type is called peripheral vertigo. This happens because of a problem in the inner ear. The most common cause is BPPV. This happens when tiny bits of calcium break off in the ear. These bits move into the ear canals and trick the brain.

The other type is called central vertigo. This happens when there is an issue in the brain. This can be caused by things like a brain injury or a tumor. Central vertigo can be very severe. It may make it hard for a person to stand up. Vertigo is common. About 7.5% to 10% of people will have it in their lives.
