Small words help us talk. We call these words articles.

In English, we use "the" for one special thing. We use "a" for any thing. This helps us be clear.

Some words show if a thing is new. They can also show if a thing is a name. For example, a name like Peter is special.

Many ways of talking do not use articles. This is true for Chinese and Japanese. Other ways of talking use them a lot.

Articles help us tell stories well. They make our words easy to know.
