Words can change their shape.

We do this by adding small bits to them. These bits can show if we mean one or many. For example, we add -s to dog to make dogs.

Changing words can also show when things happen. We add -ed to a word like wait to make waited. This tells us it happened in the past.

Some words are special. They do not change at all. These are called invariant words.

Other words change in odd ways. The word mouse changes to mice. The word foot changes to feet.

Changing words helps us talk clearly. It is a fun way to use language.
