Lexicon

language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A lexicon is a big list of words. It is the collection of words in a language.

We use these words to talk and share ideas. We also use rules called grammar to join words. This helps us make sentences.

New words can join the list. People make them by mixing two words together. This is called compounding.

Some words come from other lands. We call these loanwords. They help our list of words grow.

Dictionaries are books that list these words. They put them in order. It is fun to learn new words!
