It lives in many places like India and Australia. Most live in fresh water. Some live in brackish water, which is a mix of fresh and salty water.

These fish hunt for bugs above the water. They use a clever way to catch them. The fish makes a small groove in its mouth. It uses its tongue to make a narrow channel. Then, it moves its gill covers to push water through. This creates a fast jet of water. The jet hits the bug and knocks it down.

Archerfish are very good at aiming. They can hit a target on the first try. They have great eyesight to help them see. They even know how to aim through the water's surface. This is hard because light bends when it moves through water.

Young fish must learn how to shoot. They hunt in groups to help each other. They can even learn by watching other fish.
