The stars in Antlia are quite faint. You can see them if you are south of 49 degrees north. The brightest star is Alpha Antliae. It is an orange giant star. This star may be a variable star. A variable star changes its brightness over time.

Some stars in this group are very busy. S Antliae is a binary star system. This means it is made of two stars. They are so close they share a shell of gas. One day, they will merge into one star.

Antlia also has many far-away objects. You can find a spiral galaxy there.
