Its name is Latin for a furnace. A man named Nicolas Louis de Lacaille named it in 1756. It is the 41st largest constellation in the sky.

Three bright stars form a flat triangle. Alpha Fornacis is the brightest star in the group. It is a binary star, which means it is two stars orbiting each other.

Scientists have found six star systems with exoplanets. Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars. One star, HR 858, has at least three planets.

Fornax also holds many deep-sky objects. It has the Fornax Cluster. This is a large group of galaxies.

One galaxy in the cluster is NGC 1399. It is very big. It is even larger than our Milky Way galaxy. The Hubble Space Telescope even took a very deep picture in this area. This helps us see the far reaches of space.
