Antitheism is a way of thinking. It is the idea that people should oppose theism. Theism is the belief in a god. Some people use this word in different ways.

One group thinks that belief in a god is bad. They may feel it causes harm or is dangerous. Another thinker, Jacques Maritain, said it is a struggle. He said it is a fight against things that remind us of a god.

In the past, a man named Robert Flint used the term too. He used it for any idea that went against his beliefs. He believed a supreme Being made the world. He thought this Being was wise and good. He also noted that others use the word differently. Some use it to say that a god has been disproven.

There are other words for these ideas. Dystheism is the belief that a god is not good. Misotheism is the feeling of hate toward a god. Some groups, like some forms of Atheistic Satanism, also hold these views. It is a big subject with many different views.
