Anne Golon was a very famous French writer.

She is best known for her Angélique books. These stories became a huge hit with readers. People all over the world bought them. They sold about 150 million copies in total. These books were so popular that they became movies too.

Many people love these stories because they feel like big adventures.

Writing the Angélique series was a team effort. Anne worked with her husband, Serge Golon.

Anne was the main author of the stories. Serge did much of the historical research. He found the facts about the past for her. In English, publishers combined their names into Sergeanne Golon. This helped readers know both people worked on the books. They worked together to make the world feel real.

Anne's life began in a port city called Toulon.

She was born there on December 17, 1921. Her father was a scientist and a Navy captain. Anne loved to paint and write as a child. She published her first novel when she was 18. She used the name Joëlle Danterne for that book. Later, she traveled through France on a bicycle. She even worked as a journalist in Africa.

In Africa, Anne met Serge in 1947.

They wrote their first big book in 1956. It was called Angélique: Marquise of the Angels. This book was an overnight success in France. They wrote many more books in the following years. Some were published in 1957, 1958, and 1959. A series of five films came out in the 1960s. These movies featured actors like Michèle Mercier and Robert Hossein.

Life brought some hard times to Anne later on.

Her husband Serge died in 1972. Anne had to raise four children by herself. She kept writing even during these tough years. She also had a long legal fight with a publisher. She wanted to own the rights to her own stories. After nearly ten years, she won the case in 2006. Anne died in Versailles, France, in 2017.
