Anna Bunina was a famous poet from Russia. She was a very important writer for her time. Anna was the first Russian woman to earn a living only from her writing. This was a big deal because she did not need a job outside of her books. She used her talent to support her own life. People in Russia knew her name well.

Anna started writing when she was only thirteen years old. She moved to the city of Saint Petersburg in 1802. She used an inheritance from her father to start her own home. To help her learn more, she hired tutors to teach her. She spent her time writing many poems and books. She earned money from selling her works to readers. She also received pensions from the Russian Imperial Family in 1809, 1810, and 1813.

Anna was born in the village of Urusovo. This place is in the Ryazan Governorate. Her family was part of the noble class. She grew up with different relatives after her mother died. Later, she joined special groups for writers. One group was the Lovers of the Russian Word. She became an honorary member there in 1811. She also joined the Free Society of Lovers of Literature, Science, and the Arts in 1820.

Anna wrote many different kinds of poems. Her first big work was called The Inexperienced Muse. She published a second volume of it in 1812. In 1819, she released a book called Collected Works. She used many different styles and rhythms in her writing. Her poems often talked about the lives of women. She wrote about the conflicts women had with men.

Even though she was famous, life was not always easy for Anna. She became very ill with breast cancer later in her life. She traveled to Britain between 1815 and 1817 to seek medical help. The treatment did not work, and she remained sick. She moved away from Saint Petersburg in 1824 to live with relatives. Anna died in 1829 in Denisovka.
