A pilot named Jimmie Angel flew over the falls in 1933. He tried to land his plane on the mountain in 1937. The plane got stuck in the soft ground. He and his friends had to walk for 11 days to get home. People named the falls after him to honor his trip.

The falls are in Canaima National Park. It is a big, green park. To visit, you must fly to a camp. Then you take a boat trip on a river. It is best to go from June to December. During these months, the rivers are deep enough for boats. People also visit to see the views. One famous view is called Mirador Laime. It was named after a man who made a trail there.
