Andraé Edward Crouch was a famous American singer and songwriter. Many people call him the "father of modern gospel music." He was a talented pastor and record producer too. His music brought people together through joy and faith. He wrote many songs that are still sung today. Famous songs include "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power" and "Soon and Very Soon."

Crouch had a special way of making music. He mixed the gospel music of his childhood with new styles. He used contemporary secular music to change how gospel sounded. This helped start a new kind of Christian music in the 1960s and 1970s. He also helped bridge the gap between different kinds of Christian music. This made his sound reach many more people.

His musical journey began in Los Angeles, California. He was born on July 1, 1942, with his twin sister, Sandra. His father, Benjamin, was a minister in the Church of God in Christ. When Andraé was 11, he played the piano during a church service. He listened to the congregation and found the right notes. By age 14, he had written his very first gospel song.

In 1965, he formed a group called The Disciples. This group played in famous places like Carnegie Hall. They even appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1972. Crouch later started a solo career after the group disbanded in 1982. He worked with many superstars during his life. He helped Michael Jackson with songs like "Man In the Mirror." He also worked with Madonna and Elton John.

Andraé Crouch earned many great honors for his work. He won seven Grammy Awards during his career. In 1998, he was put into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This was a very rare honor for a gospel artist. He passed away on January 8, 2015, at the age of 72. His music continues to inspire many people around the world.
