His work helped people understand the natural world through logic. He was a rare scholar who studied science instead of just religion.

Anania learned about the world by observing things closely.

He believed that nature follows its own set of rules. He taught that everything is made of four elements. These are fire, air, water, and earth. He thought God created these elements but let them work on their own. This idea helped people look for scientific reasons for how things happen. He used this way of thinking to explain many natural events.

To become a great teacher, Anania had to travel far.

He left Armenia to find better books and teachers. He eventually went to Trebizond to study with a man named Tychicus. Anania stayed with Tychicus for eight years. Tychicus had a huge library filled with many different books. Anania studied Greek science, medicine, and history there. This education gave him the "perfect knowledge of mathematics" he needed.

Anania wrote many important books during his life.

This book gave details about Armenia, Persia, and the Caucasus. In math, he created tables for the four basic operations. He even made a system of math using the Armenian alphabet. He also wrote the first collection of math puzzles in Armenian.

His ideas about the universe were very advanced.

Anania believed the Earth is round like an egg. He said the globe is like a yolk inside a shell. He also correctly explained how the moon changes its shape. He understood why we see solar and lunar eclipses. He even knew that the moon causes the tides in the ocean. These discoveries show how much he truly loved to learn.
