He was a German friar and a bishop. People called him "Doctor universalis" because he knew so much. He was a scientist, a philosopher, and a theologian. This means he studied nature, deep ideas, and religious beliefs. He is now known as a saint in the Catholic Church.

Many people see him as a great guide for learning.

Albert used a special way to learn about the world. He did not just read old books. He also used his own eyes to watch things happen. This is called empirical investigation. For example, he looked closely at eggs to find organs inside.

He also studied minerals in a very organized way. Before him, there was no systematic study of these rocks. He believed science should ask why things happen. He wanted to find the causes of all natural things.

Albert's life began around the year 1200. He was likely born in a place called Lauingen. He studied at the University of Padua to learn about Aristotle. Later, he joined the Dominican Order in 1223 or 1229. He traveled to many cities to teach people. These places included Cologne, Regensburg, and Strasbourg.

He spent a lot of time explaining the works of Aristotle. He also studied ideas from Muslim scholars like Avicenna and Averroes. In 1260, Pope Alexander IV made him a bishop. Even as a bishop, Albert stayed very humble. He chose to walk on foot across his large area. He did not want to ride a horse.

Today, we still remember Albert for his many discoveries. He helped start the tradition of studying philosophy in Dominican schools. One of his famous students was Thomas Aquinas.
