In 1260, Pope Alexander IV named him the bishop of Regensburg. Despite this high office, Albert was known for his great humility. He chose to walk on foot across his large diocese rather than riding a horse.
His influence on future thinkers was immense. One of his most famous students was Thomas Aquinas. Albert was a strong defender of Aquinas's teachings. The two men worked together for thirty years to integrate Aristotelian study into Dominican schools. This work was essential for the development of medieval academic life. Albert's massive collection of writings eventually grew to thirty-eight volumes. These books covered diverse topics like botany, zoology, mineralogy, and astronomy. He even helped invent the systematic study of minerals, a field that had not existed before him.
Albertus Magnus died on 15 November 1280 in Cologne, Germany.
