He ruled during the Mamluk era. This was a time of many leaders. He ruled three different times.

His first reign began when he was only eight. Other men held the real power then. They were called emirs. One emir was named Kitbugha. Another was named al-Shuja‘i. They fought each other for control. Soon, an-Nasir was removed from power. He was sent away to a place called al-Karak.

He returned to Egypt when he was fourteen. This was his second reign. Again, two emirs led the way. Their names were Salar and Baibars. They fought a large army from the Ilkhanate. This army was led by a man named Ghazan. The two armies met at Wadi al-Khazandar.

An-Nasir's army lost that battle.

In his third reign, an-Nasir took full control. He did not want others to rule for him. He chose loyal helpers for his army. He also helped the common people. He stopped unfair taxes that emirs used to take money. He even hired a leader to fight corruption. This man was Ibn al-Waziri.

An-Nasir ruled until he died in 1341.
